A must-see and perhaps one of the most iconic tourist attractions in the area is Hearst Castle located just 9 miles North of Cambria. Built in the "Moorish" style of architecture, the castle features 165-rooms on 127 acres wtih gardens, terraces, pools and walkways. It's furnished with Spanish and Italian antiques and art, flanked by three large guest houses. In its heyday, Hearst Castle had a zoo, tennis courts and two magnificent swimming pools including the Neptune pool. Come and experience this landmark which is a major tourist destination. Continue North to the Piedras Blancas Lighthouse where you can experience a rare breeding ground for Elephant Seals. Further along Highway 1 is Ragged Point and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. The views are unsurpassed with beaches, forest knolls and abundant wildlife including wild turkeys. Rest along Highway 1 and view the whales as they migrate. Highway 1 was ranked as one of the "Nations most scenic Highways".
